1Malaysia Mobile Clinic to provide medical care in remote areas
The 1Malaysia Mobile Clinic (Klinik Bergerak 1Malaysia) is a collaborative effort between 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) aimed at providing basic medical care to people in rural and remote areas.
The programme, part of 1MDB’s corporate social responsibility initiative, is the brainchild of YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia. He announced the intent to set up the 1Malaysia Mobile clinic after Cabinet meeting on 16 July 2010.
The clinic was launched on 9 December 2010 in Simpang Pulai, Perak and the mobile boat clinic was launched in Sungai Baram in Sarawak 14 April 2011.
Both the 1Malaysia Mobile Clinic bus and boat are fully equipped with facilities for basic outpatient medical care, and each team is led by a doctor. The operation, which started in Perak and Selangor, has now expanded to a fleet of five buses to include Johor and Pahang, and a boat in Sarawak.
The clinic operates from Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays) during office hours, visiting the same location once every two to three weeks. The selected locations are mainly remote villages, plantations or Orang Asli settlements that are accessible but lacks basic healthcare facilities.
The six-person mobile team will provide services which include, among others, outpatient treatment; antenatal, postnatal, immunization and family planning; preventive health checkups, health education and advice; as well as follow up treatment for chronic diseases.
