Bujang Taha gets a helping hand
Former Mr Asia Bujang Taha received a cheque for RM20,000 from 1MDB to provide immediate relief to him and his family following a fire which destroyed his house in February. The cheque was presented to him near the site of Bujang’s burnt house at Kampung Tanjung, Kuching. 1MDB also presented a cheque of RM10,000 to Bujang’s neighbour, Hood Mahmud, whose house was also destroyed in the fire.
The financial assistance, although small in comparison to the losses suffered by Bujang, was meant to serve as a token of appreciation for his invaluable contribution as a former national athlete who has represented the country with distinction and honour in the sports arena.
Bujang won four Mr Asia titles in 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1986. He also won two SEA Games gold medals in Kuala Lumpur in 1977 and in Jakarta in 1979 in the bantamweight category, as well as qualifying for the Mr Universe challenge in 1982 in Belgium.
