Youths in the rural area often find limited opportunities and avenues to express themselves. Working in a post office for the past several years, Humaizi witnessed this restless energy. A great example of how change could start at the local level, Humaizi’s project will train unemployed youths with new skills, get them off the streets and raise environmental awareness to boot.
WHAT ?
A nature lover who organizes gotong-royong to clean up forest reserves in rural Johor, Humaizi plans to start a project to train unemployed Labis youths to design and print t-shirts.
WHY ?
Rural youth have the same amount of energy, passion and creativity as their urban counterpart, but they may see less opportunity. Humaizi wants to offer youths in his rural area an activity that is beyond what is usually offered to them, so they can channel their passion towards something productive.
HOW ?
A course in t-shirt printing and design for local youth to start their own enterprise and produced environmentally-themed t-shirts. Proceed from sale will be used to fund community youth development activities. Humaizi may be starting something small, but he is determined to get the ball rolling.
